I remember seeing Heath Kirchart skate a demo in Palm Springs the same day OJ and Kato took to the freeway in the white Bronco. So what was that….? 1994. It was with the Foundation Team. Without turning this into a boring story Ill just say he killed it- I remember thinking to myself ” This guy is actually landing tricks”. And he was landing hard tricks and doing them big on these two wedge ramps. Coming back home that night and skating the next day was driven by Heath inspiration. I’d say me and my grom friends landed 60% more of our tricks just because we had seen Heath skate so rad. I did not care about OJ at all.
If you haven’t heard Heath is bringing his pro career in skateboarding to an end. He is still going to skate but he’s asking his sponsors not to pay him anymore which is pretty gutsy. He could sell boards for another 10 years and no longer come out with videos or even show his face. Heath is smart guy though, when most pros are out spending their money at the bar, he has been investing. I think the after skate career will give him more time to focus on that aspect of his life. He couldn’t leave at a better time in his skating career either, he has come out with some of Thee most amazing parts…. and some slams too! His body is going to take a huge sigh of relief.
